Wins and Fails

Sun Nov 22, 2009, 9:43 AM
Hi-diddly-ho!

Its another grey sunday morning in Springfield and life is going as planned. 2 MORE WEEKS OF CLASSES! and I have still maintained enough of my sanity (if I had any to begin with).

I'm sorry I haven't posted the Milk photos yet. Fern is taking her sweet time in marking. The suspense is killing me. I get them back this friday and will speed home and post them asap.

Speaking of Fern, she showed us an absolutely riveting and beautiful photo series that really resonated with me. Her name is Alessandra Sanguinetti and she lived in Argentina while taking these photos. If you wanna check out what I'm ranting about, here's the link:
[link]
On her site, go to "work" and then have a look at "the adventures..." and "the life that came". They're a long term pair of series that fist recreate two cousin's fantasies and dreams, and then document what actually happened.

So, of course, I saw those and was totally determined to take some amazing photographs myself for our independent project. I had zip ideas though. I resorted to plan "Improvise" and drove until something was inspiring to me. I took about 36 shots on two different subjects. I'm developing them today, and since you never know if things will turn out with film, imunna leave you guys hanging until they are in their final stages of printing.

Have I told you guys about my adventures in painting lately? This is a good story:

So Gary is having us do portraits painting from a clothed model. Whoot. My weakest point. Anyways, there are two models. One is experienced, one is not AT ALL. Half the class will paint Donna-Lee laying on a couch in a belly-dancing costume. The other half will paint African-American Corellee (sp?) with ZERO experience in an outfit yet to be determined. I pick Corellee, of course.
She shows up the first day and says to us, "Hey guys, I didn't want to pick a costume that was old or anything. Like, if you want people to buy your art it has to be modern, right? So I picked something really modern, okay?". She skips off to get changed toting a La Senza bag. Ohhhh nooo. Heather suggests that maybe she'll come back in a Lady GaGa-esque get up. She comes back in the worst ensemble to have ever scarred my not-so-virgin eyes. A snug black tee-shirt that yells in hot pink and black font "I'm a Fucking Princess", frilly, sheer, hot pink panties, knee-high socks with a pattern of cupcakes, cowboy boots, and hot pink lipstick to top it off. We all exchange glances that either suggest the onslaught of either shock or uncontrollable laughter. She takes a seat in a provocative pose while pretending to smoke a cigarette. Of course everybody's paintings are going to end up looking like a satisfied prostitute in a dingy hotel. She gets her cheque for modeling at the end of the session and gets way too excited. "MONEY!!"
So it's week two and I'm all ready to make some serious damage on this painting. But would Corellee show up? Of course not! We already knew she lived by the Safeway downtown, and judging by her mentality regarding money and "modern" we have concluded that she's a crack addict scrounging for drug money by means of Fail jobs.
AWESOME.
So we have a different model now. She's caucasian with an olive complexion and looks NOTHING like Corelle, obviously. Way to make my job overly difficult!!!
Anyways, it makes a good story. =P

End of term posts soon!!

PS. I am currently watching my 14 year old brother from my bedroom window. He running around in the grey, attempting to make a video involving other pubescent boys in camo and ghille suits with BB guns. I have no idea what it's for, but it's kinda humorous to watch.

The world forgetting, by the world forgot.

Im nothing special, and come to think of it neither are you, and the same thing goes for everyone. We as a group are a bubble in someone's soda, who is a bubble in someone else's soda. . . and yet, we still do this >...>
